Children's Art Contest

This year there was an art contest for kids as part of the Freedom Festival.

Violet was so excited! She decided what she wanted to draw and practiced a few times. Once she had her final product finished, we had to get a special frame. Each frame needed to be wired for hanging. It took some doing to get that done, but we did. The day to enter the artwork was while we were away, so Vi lucked out by having Deann turn it in for her. Thanks Deann!

After the 4th, and after the artwork had been judged, there was a huge reception. We got to look at all the artwork that was on display in the Health and Justice building. Violet was in the 5-6 age category. There were some really great paintings. I swear, some were not done by kids! They were so good!

Violet drew a castle tower with a princess in it. There was a dragon surrounding the castle, and a prince with a sword and a shield rescuing her. It was called "The Rescue". She drew it in pencil and then colored it in with colored pencil. There were about 20 entries in her age group.

There were some young musicians that played instruments, and some food. The Utah Puppeteers were also at the event. While they (puppeteers) were warming up, Ashton said, "Hey look, a puppet head." Then the puppet looked in his direction and said.."did some one call me a puppet head?!" There was a whole sill explanation about how she had more then a head. The kids were rolling. Ashton thought it was great that the puppet head was talking to him.

The awards ceremony was a little long for kids. There was a lot of thanking this person and that. It was a little drawn out. Then they had to rush through the awards. Violet won a participation prize (free ice cream cones and Chuck E Cheese tokens) and was thrilled. She also got a nice certificate. The judges said she had a very good imagination. We ran into our friends the Brady's while we were there. It was good to see them, it's been a long time!

We are very happy that Violet did so well in the contest. I'm sure it will be something that she can enjoy doing each year. She was so cute!

They also had a face painter. Violet got a butterfly, and Ashton a huge ugly monster!
